FirstLight Home Care Opens in McHenry

McHenry, Ill. – (May 13, 2014) — FirstLight Home Care is now open in McHenry to provide a different approach to non-medical, in-home care for adults.  

The approach starts with FirstLight focusing on quality of life for its clients, who are seniors, adults with disabilities and those recovering from illness, injury or surgery.  This stems from the owner’s passion of enriching the lives in the community where she was raised.  It is owned and operated by local resident, Sande Sherman. 

“This community is very important to me, and I wanted to take care of the people that built it and have made it what it is today,” Sherman said. “At FirstLight Home Care, we will serve others by maintaining their quality of life and helping them remain in their homes.”

Sherman’s entrepreneurial spirit began at the age of 10 when she assisted her father, John Sherman, in his company, Sherman Plumbing & Heating (now Sherman Mechanical). She has spent the majority of her career in the human resources field. After 15 years as a human resource executive at CDW in Vernon Hills, Ill., she started her own human resource consulting practice.  While she had experienced a rewarding career, she wanted to do more for the community and make a difference in people’s lives. After learning about the in-home care industry, Sherman knew she had to be a part of it.

FirstLight Home Care of NE McHenry County recently celebrated its grand opening and will service residents of Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Hebron, Island Lake, Lake In the Hills, Lakemoor, Lilly Lake, McHenry, Richmond, Ringwood, Spring Grove, Union, Volo, Wauconda and Woodstock. FirstLight employs caregivers who assist with daily life activities, allowing adults to maintain their independence safely and comfortably at home.
