The caregivers at FirstLight are so kind, helpful, and proactive with my 94-year old father. They help him around the house, provide companionship, and drive him to appointments and errands. Having them around gives us great peace of mind that someone is always there with him on time at the agreed-upon hours; and we get regular communications and updates from the care managers who make sure all his needs are met. This agency offers 100% accountability for their caregivers and everything that happens in the home. They go above and beyond.
We engaged First Light when my mother in law came to life with us. They offered a flexible schedule as we only needed time while my wife and I were out of the house. We’ve been very happy with their services and people. Our caregiver comes mornings to do the wake / shower / dress / breakfast routine for us and will take our mother in law out for a walk if weather permits. She’s very patient and experienced with seniors and those with dementia. My 60 year old husband had an unexpected 9 week hospitalization. I knew I was going to need some help when he came home. We weren’t sure when he was going to get discharged, so could not set up home help ahead of time. A friend of mine suggested I speak with Wendy at FirstLight Home Care. It was a holiday weekend when I called. Wendy got right back to me and we set up a time when we could talk about my needs. After speaking with her, she emailed me the paperwork. I completed it that night and by the next day, they had found some one who could come by the very next day!! I was shocked at how quickly my needs were met (within 36 hours)!!. Thankfully, my husbands health improved with each passing day. We only needed to use FirstHome services for 4 weeks. I highly recommend Wendy and their entire team. It was a hard decision about what to do with my mom’s continued mental decline. I work and am not able to be with her during the day. She was very reluctant to have someone in her house and had said if we did bring someone she would chase them out. After looking at multiple options. We chose First Light. I am very happy with the entire staff. I thought I was just hiring Glenda to spend the daylight hours with mom. First, Glenda is amazing. Not only does mom welcome her in but, she looks forward to her coming. Every day Glenda finds something for them to do. No longer does my mom sit in her chair all day and sleep. She’s active and engaged and happy. However, it’s also the support staff that makes this agency truly special. They are extremely responsive to any and all questions. Wendy who came for our first interview told me “you can’t teach someone to care.” So true and everyone who works here does, and that’s the only kind of person who they hire. It’s only been a few months but I no longer worry about my mom leaving the house and getting lost, driving, cooking and burning the house down… or any of the other things I constantly worried about. I also know that this agency will continue to work with me as my mom continues to decline, providing more services as I need them. I look forward to many, many more years with them.
FirstLight Home Care is truly a miracle. With all these large and impersonal corporate home care agencies, FirstLight makes you feel like you are their only client with one on one attention to you as as customer AND they take a vested interest in keeping your elderly loved ones safe and provided for in their own homes, which ultimately is the most important thing. They do an amazing job vetting their aides and making sure they are compatible with your loved one. I’ve been using them since the start of 2019 to take care of my mother who has cognitive issues. My mother’s inability to care for herself came on rather suddenly and for me, as someone who was inexperienced in navigating home care and lives far away from my mother, First Light made it very easy to sign on with them, find an aide and come up with a program to help my mother in her day to day activities. What I found most amazing was that as with many elderly people stuck in their ways and now having to essentially “live” with someone who is disrupting their routine First Light worked with me to appease some of my mom’s strict routines, while at he same time introducing new coping care techniques that did not upset my mother. It took a few months to get into a rhythm with aide care and my mom but we did get there and that took a tremendous amount of stress out of my life. FirstLight is great. I don’t know what I would do with out them #blessed.
Its hard to put into words how we feel about Home Health Care from First Light. The agency itself does whatever they can to improve our quality of life including arranging home based physical therapy and occupational therapy. Our health care provider is a blessing. Her work with my husband has improved his status as a Parkinson’s Patient with an additional rare neurological condition. PT, OT exercises are practiced regularly. Light meals prepared. Laundry. I also have a rare autoimmune disease which demands frequent medical appointments. In addition, we have an adult daughter who is disabled, living nearby. The warm and so capable presence of our First Light Home Health Care provider means a much better quality of life for myself and our daughter. Well-being, Happiness, Peace (at least in our tiny corner of the world). I am a person of faith and know I found First Light as a result of prayer.
Our family has had a wonderful experience working with FirstLight Home Care of West Suburban Boston. The care provider they assigned to work with us, Goldie, has been absolutely first rate. The persons in the organization who also directly support us, Melissa and Nachelle, as well as everyone else in the organization with whom we have had contact, are also highly competent, knowledgeable and experienced. This organization has an extraordinary culture of caring and excellence. That was hardly surprising after getting to know one of their leaders, Wendy AIderstein. It doesn’t get any better.
We’ve been working with Melissa, my mom’s care coordinator at First Light, for several months. My mom’s recently emergent dementia coupled with a longstanding mental health disorder means she’s not an easy case. Melissa has always been very responsive as issues have come up and she is easy to communicate with. On occasion we’ve had an unexpected need for an aide; Melissa and First Light came through for us. And I’ve been impressed consistently with the direct care people they have sent us. Unfortunately there is more staff turnover throughout this industry; however, I’ve found the caregivers to be conscientious, attentive and caring.
I want to acknowledge and commend Wendy of FirstLight Home Care on her compassion, caring, and time. As a former principal/ founder of Wellbridge in Los Angeles/ Beverly Hills, and a seasoned clinician, I can honestly attest the caliber of the staff and organization. Wendy and her staff went above and beyond to make a create a smooth transition, and provide clear concise information. Her efforts were unparalleled and her ability to provide competent staff were extraordinary.
